His Royal Highness is a fully engaged leader of the Minervan liberation movement, as well as an active and motivating force behind diplomatic efforts and economic development for the Principality. He plays a personal role in all aspects of Principality operations, and chairs the Minervan Commission, the organization that represents Minerva to nations which do not have formal diplomatic ties with Minerva.

Prince Calvin was educated in the United States. He studied a wide range of subjects including a study of history, politics and law. He is also well-studied in the fine arts and especially in music. His Royal Highness is an accomplished concert performer, with abilities on most brass instruments.

His Royal Highness enrolled in the Boy Scouts of America achieving the honor of Eagle Scout at the remarkable age of 15. Prince Calvin is a continuing supporter of the world-wide Scouting movement.

Academics

His Royal Highness is an accomplished legal scholar in the United States. Prince Calvin also holds a degree in Political Science & International Comparative Politics, and also maintains a strong background in Philosophy, Classical History, and Economics.

Currently, His Royal Highness is working to develop the Minervan Institute for International Policy, at and in association with Pebble Hills University.

The Minervan Institute is designed to prepare students to become effective leaders in the policy making and management arenas of governments, global businesses, international organizations and leading non-profit institutions. The focus is on settings where advanced geo-political competency and crosscultural dexterity are particularly important, and on the strong analytic skills needed to solve public problems.

The study of international and comparative politics at the Institute focuses on relationships between international and domestic institutions, political development and culture, political economy and policy making, law, and social and political change.

The International Policy Institute is designed to provide strong emphasis in the areas of international relations theory, historical development of the nation-states system, international environmental politics, national security, and international institutions.

The Minervan Institute for International Policy was founded by His Royal Highness in order to encourage a global perspective on modern world affairs. The Prince is the acting President of the Institute, and is personally involved in the development of the curriculum as well as the selection and development of the faculty at the Institute. The Principality hopes to complete a provisional curriculum sometime this year.

Government Duties

His Royal Highness Prince Calvin came to position on 3 October 2003. The Prince's informal installation took place "en-exsilium" on 1 November 2003. Representatives of the Noblesse, the Parliament and all the great public interests in Minerva were present. Prince Calvin's style, in its entirety: His Royal Highness the Prince Calvin, Sovereign Prince of Minerva and Duke of Victoria, Lord of the Minervan Isles. HRH is also Supreme Grand Master of the Honorable and Chivalric Order of the Black Cross, Grand Master of the Capitoline Order, and Grand Master and Principle Knight of the Minervan Order.

The Prince maintains close contact with the Deputy Regent - who presides over sessions of Parliament, with whom he has a weekly audience, and with other Ministers of the Crown. He sees all Council papers and the records of Council and Council Committee meetings. He receives important Foreign Office messages and a daily summary of events in Parliament.

His Royal Highness acts as host to the Heads of State and receives other notable visitors from abroad.

As a Sovereign, His Royal Highness is head of all security services within the Principality, consisting mainly of the Royal Minervan Security Corps. On becoming Prince he also became Colonel-in-Chief of all the Royal Guards Regiments.

The Prince appoints his cabinet and makes the final decisions on major issues both domestically and abroad. The Prince drives Minervan policies and is the person likely to be held to account for those policies. Even though the Prince may be head of the government, he is also seen as ‘primus inter pares’ – first among equals.

Philanthropy, etc.

The Prince is Patron or President over many organizations, and accordingly undertakes a large number of engagements supporting such endeavors through the Minervan International Action Center.

Prince Calvin is a keen sportsman and prefers soccer, American football, golf, tennis, swimming and horseback riding. He is an accomplished musician with abilities in brass performance. Prince Calvin also enjoys reading and the cinema. Prince Calvin is unmarried and has no children.
